Teeth Whitening FAQ'S

Teeth discoloration can be caused by several factors including: aging, consuming staining substances such as coffee, tea, wine, and tobacco, certain medications, poor oral hygiene, and trauma.

Out teeth whitening treatments are fast and effective way to achieve a whiter smile. With just one treatment you can expect to see a result of 5 – 14 shades lighter.

Some common side effects of teeth whitening include: sensitivity in teeth and gums, mild discomfort or pain, and temporary gum irritation. These usually go away within a few days after treatment. In rare cases, more severe and longer-lasting side effects can occur. It’s important to follow the instructions of a professional and if experiencing discomfort, to seek dental advice.

Teeth whitening is not suitable for everyone. It’s not recommended for children under 16, pregnant or breast feeding women, or those with gum disease or requiring dental work.

Teeth whitening is a safe and effective cosmetic treatment that removes stains and discoloration from teeth. At our studio, we use the latest whitening gel that is approved for use in Australia. Our whitening gel contains 6% peroxide, which is gentler than other options available on the market. This carefully formulated gel is designed to be gentle and non-invasive, making teeth whitening a safe option for everyone.

For clients who have crowns, veneers or composite, teeth whitening is still an option. While these restorations may not whiten as much as natural teeth, the treatment can help match your natural teeth to the colour of your veneers, caps etc. If your veneers have developed surface stains, teeth whitening can help to improve their appearance and remove discoloration. We will assess your individual situation and recommend the best course of action for your specific needs. Don’t let restorations hold you back from achieving the bright, confident smile you deserve – contact us today to learn more about our teeth whitening options.

The machines which are also called lamps or lasers and work by accelerating the bleaching gel achieving maximum results around 1 hour. Without the use of the laser, results would take weeks of daily treatment to achieve the best results.

Our safe and gentle products and straightforward procedures make offering teeth whitening to our clients a breeze. The process, when done correctly, is safe on teeth and gums. The ADIA say it is safe to have a teeth whitening treatment every 3-4 months without risking harm to your enamel.

We get fantastic results from our products with results of 5 to 14 shades whiter able to be achieved on untreated teeth. Results will be reduced if the client uses any home whitening products or has had an in-chair treatment in the past 2 years. Most clients are thrilled with their results but some have unrealistic expectations. Teeth whitening will not produce paper while results like seen in the movies this is a result of having the surface of the teeth replaced with porcelain veneers. Tooth bleaching will remove stains from the surface of the teeth and return them to the colour they were originally grown.

When done in-chair the client can get maximum results in less than 1 hour. The whitening solution is activated by an accelerator lamp which can get your teeth as white as they will go by whitening in a single visit. So what does this mean? How white will your teeth go? Your teeth will whiten to the colour they were originally prior to staining by diet and lifestyle. Teeth whitening removes stains from the surface of the teeth, it doesn’t whiten enamel no matter who does it.

The cost of in-chair tooth whitening varies but can range from $500 to $1,000 if performed by a dentist or a non-dental professional technician can offer the treatment from $99 to $299.

Once your teeth are whitened you will need to avoid dark coloured food and drink for 24-48 hours to avoid re-staining while teeth are porous.

When it comes to tooth-whitening, you’ve got two options: in-chair or a take-home treatment. So what’s the difference and what do I need to know before getting my teeth bleached?

Both options generally use peroxide-based gels however there are non-peroxide options available however the best results come from peroxide-based treatments.

Many people believe, the longer you keep a stronger solution on, the whiter your smile becomes. However, this is not the case. Peroxide gel peeks after being applied for 20 minutes and there is a little benefit after this. Keeping the gel on longer will dehydrate the tooth and increase sensitivity. To increase the results it is best to remove the gel completely and repeat the application. Using stronger peroxide will not give better results it will only cause more pain and sensitivity with a risk of blisters in the mouth.

There are pros and cons to each option, but before you try home kits, talk to your dentist about the condition of your teeth and gums and ensure you have no dental work required before doing any whitening treatment. Not everyone will see good results as your teeth will only lighten to their original colour. Some people have naturally yellower teeth than others. There are also conditions like fluorosis and intrinsic stains which will not benefit from a bleaching treatment no matter who does it or what products or equipment are used. Whitening will not lighten porcelain veneers, fillings or crowns.

Around one hour with a triple treatment is all that is needed to achieve maximum results.

Teeth will maintain their fresh new appearance for around one year. Re-staining depends largely on diet and lifestyle. Smoking, coffee, tea, fruit juice, sodas all staining foods and beverages will eventually re-stain your enamel.

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure that is completely non-dental. The products we use are gentler and yet just as effective as those used by the dentist. All our products are Australian compliant and produced to the highest standards. Teeth whitening does not whiten your natural enamel colour.

How we whiten your teeth

Here’s how we work with you to achieve the best results:

  1. Preparation: The process typically begins with a thorough cleaning of the teeth to remove any plaque, debris, or surface stains. (Done by a dentist)
  2. Application of Whitening Gel: A trained technician will apply a whitening gel to the teeth. This gel contains a safe and effective bleaching agent, usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. These chemicals break down and release oxygen, which penetrates the enamel and dentin to lighten the tooth’s colour.
  3. LED Activation: The LED teeth whitening machine comes into play at this stage. The machine emits a specific type of LED light, usually blue or cool white light, which is directed at the teeth. This light helps to activate and enhance the whitening properties of the gel.
  4. Chemical Reaction: The combination of the whitening gel and LED light accelerates the chemical reaction that breaks down stains and discoloration on the tooth’s surface. This process is known as oxidation.
  5. Duration: The treatment typically lasts around 15-60 minutes, depending on the system used and the desired level of whitening.
  6. Rinse and Assess: After the treatment, the gel is rinsed off, and the client’s teeth are assessed to determine the level of whitening achieved. Clients often notice an immediate improvement in the colour of their teeth.

Professional LED teeth whitening machines work effectively because the LED light enhances the activation of the whitening gel, allowing it to penetrate the tooth’s enamel and break down stains and discolorations. The LED light also generates minimal heat, reducing the risk of tooth sensitivity, which can be a common side effect of teeth whitening.

It’s essential to note that the effectiveness of professional LED teeth whitening may vary from person to person, depending on the severity of staining, the type of staining (intrinsic or extrinsic), and the quality of the equipment and materials used. Additionally, results are not permanent, and teeth may gradually re-stain over time, especially if individuals continue to consume staining substances like coffee, tea, or red wine.

Teeth whitening machines are a safe and efficient way to achieve a brighter smile, and  are best administered by our certified technician to ensure both safety and effectiveness.
