Prepare For Scalp Micropigmentation Treatment
You have had your consultation and now are excited and nervous for your appointment where you will get the world's leading hair loss solution in history!
If you want to achieve the best results, then you want to plan properly for your treatment.
Scalp micropigmentation is a form of cosmetic tattooing. Pigment is implanted into the upper dermal layer of the scalp using a special machine.
This then creates the illusion of hair follicles. Scalp micropigmentation is non-surgical and non-invasive, but it is still a procedure that breaks the skin, so you and specifically your scalp need to be healthy, strong, non-sensitive, and non-irritated.
For any scalp micropigmentation procedure, you should avoid these things for 48 hours prior to your treatment
- Alcohol
- Caffeine
- Garlic
- Oily fish
- Vitamin E or Omega 3
The reason for this is that they are all blood thinners.
The more you bleed during your treatment, the more chance you have of the pigment being pushed back out of the scalp. The thinner your blood, the more you will bleed.
Also, having thin blood for a treatment like this can lead to excessive bruising and pigment migration.

Scalp micropigmentation works best on a very closely shaved scalp. The night before the procedure, you should shave your scalp with clippers to zero so when the treatment is done you will get better results.
Starting 2 weeks before your treatment, you should avoid the sun. Tanning and sunburn, will cause skin cells to turn over quicker, which will cause faster fading and make the procedure more painful.
Do not exercise on the day of treatment; if you do, your skin will be oily, which can prevent the pigment from retaining.

On the morning of the treatment, you are going to want to wash your hair to get rid of any excess oils or dirt.
Once your hair is washed, DO NOT use any products on your hair. No oils, no serums. No waxes or gels.
What To Do On The Day
If you are feeling unsure about your pain threshold, take 2 paracetamols before the treatment; this will help to reduce the pain (which is minimal). You can also bring a book, your phone, or something to listen to music on; this will help to distract you during the procedure, which will also help with any minor pain.
Take with you some sugary drinks or snacks, as during the procedure your blood sugar levels are likely to drop. Sugary drinks or snacks should level this back out. Finally, please make sure you declare your allergies, no matter what they are.
Although it is exceedingly rare to have an allergic reaction to or during the treatment, a lot of things will come into contact with you, such as gloves, wax pencils, wipes, cling film, pigment, and more.
It is important to log any allergies with your scalp micropigmentation artist before your treatment so they can switch out anything that may be a problem for you.
